How to Find Your Ring Size at Home
No jeweler nearby? Three reliable ways to measure your ring size, plus how to size for a surprise proposal without giving it away.

A ring that fits should slide over your knuckle with a little resistance and stay put without spinning. Most women in the US wear a size 5 to 7, and most men a size 9 to 11, but there's no reason to guess.
1. Use a ring that already fits
Pick a ring worn on the same finger, since fingers on your dominant hand are often half a size larger. Measure the inside diameter in millimeters and match it to a ring size chart. A 16.5 mm diameter, for example, is about a US size 6.
2. The paper strip method
- Cut a thin strip of paper about half an inch wide.
- Wrap it around the base of your finger, snug but not tight.
- Mark where the paper overlaps and measure that length in millimeters.
- That number is your finger's circumference. Match it on a size chart.
Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly larger, and avoid measuring right after a workout or when your hands are cold.
3. Order a free ring sizer
The most accurate option short of visiting us. We'll mail a reusable sizer at no cost, and you'll have your size in under a minute.
Between two sizes? Choose the larger one, especially for wide bands, which fit more snugly than thin ones.
Sizing for a surprise proposal
Borrow a ring she wears on her right ring finger and go half a size down, or trace its inside on paper. Still unsure? Your first resize is free during the first year, so the ring can be adjusted after the big moment.
